Santiago was a lonely shepherd, who wondered the plains of Andalusia with his sheep. He always dreamed of travelling and visiting beautiful places on Earth, and once he had a dream about treasures by the Pyramids in Egypt. Santiago decides to change his entire life, sale his sheep and with this money travel to the pyramids to find the treasures.
He meets an old man, who tells him about the law of attraction, and explains him that Universe is helping you when you want your dream to come true, your job is to believe with strong faith that your goal is already accomplished.
Old man buys all Santiago’s sheep and gives him two little rocks, those that help in the moments of despair and sorrows.
Santiago’s travel begins. He will learn many lessons on his Path from the very beginning. The Path will teach him to understand the essential language of Life.
The most interesting moment of his Path is when Santiago stopped by the souvenir shop, owned by an old man. At that time Santiago was in great despair, he lost all the money, he almost lost any hope, so he offered his services as a worker, cleaning cut-glass ware, at the souvenir shop. The owner was selling crystal for a long time, and remembered when the business was better than these days, and he believed that those days are long gone from now. He shared with Santiago that he also had a dream, he dreamed of visiting Mecca as a pilgrimage, but he considered that dream impossible and unreal, besides that he didn’t want it to come true, because he will lose the sense of life, so he was saying: “The dream must stay as a dream.”
When Santiago was working at the shop, he suggested an idea to offer cool water from the crystal glasses to visitors and those who bypass the shop. The shop was located on the top of the hill, and customers didn’t want to climb that high to buy crystal glass, but when they were offered the glass of cool water, they were amazed by the fresh and rejuvenating taste of this water, and were buying crystal glass, because they seemed to believe that the taste of water depends on the crystal. The sales went high, the owner of the shop was amazed and didn’t believe his eyes, he was became popular, people went to him to taste this wonderful water, other shops down the hill tried that idea too, but it didn’t work, because visitors were not exhausted by difficult climb to the hill.
Santiago was working for a year and earned enough money to continue his travel to the pyramids, those that he continued to dream about. His journey was lying through the desert. During these days of journey he met a guy, who was dreaming to become an alchemist, and was heading to the oasis to find his mentor.
After exhausting journey Santiago with his new friend reached the oasis, at that time Santiago already learned few lessons taught by the desert and gained some experience. When his friend met the alchemist, he told him that he should study more, and isn’t ready to be his apprentice, so he should have visited him later.
People of the desert, who stopped at the oasis, were speaking about the arising war at the desert, and that nobody should leave oasis until the war ends, because the belligerents will not attack the oasis by the laws of the desert. Santiago is very disappointed by this news, because he believed that he is already so close to the Pyramids, and the dream is looming ahead. Nevertheless he stays at the oasis, meets a beautiful girl, and falls in love with her. He understands that she is the one that was born to be besides him, she felt the same.
Santiago learned a lot at that time, the alchemist helped him on that. Despite of war Santiago and the alchemist continue to pyramids, and meet the hostile army. The general holds them imprisoned and threatens to kill them. The alchemist offers a deal – if Santiago turns into the wind, the general will set them free. General laughed at this offer, but accepted it, because he didn’t believe that it’s possible.
At first Santiago doesn’t believe in that also, but it is better to try then die. When that happens, the great storm arises and general doesn’t believe his eyes, but the deal is the deal, he let them go. Santiago is still shocked that he actually spoken to the wind and the wind moved him to the other side of dunes. The alchemist told him that from now one he should travel alone.
